"The Amazing Love Of God"

The love of a parent for a child is a mighty force.  Consider the couple with their new born child.  The baby has nothing to offer his parents.  No money.  No skill.  No words of wisdom.  If he had pockets they would be empty.  To see an infant lying in a crib, is to see one that is totally helpless.  What is there to love?

Whatever it is, Mom and Dad find it immediately.  Just watch Mom's face as she holds the child and feeds him.  Watch Dad's eyes as he cradles the child in his arms.  If you think for a minute that they may not love that child, just say something evil about it or try to harm it in any way and you'll see the mighty strength of a loving parent become a powerful force.

Jesus once asked, if we humans who are sinful and selfish have such a love, how much more does God, the sinless and selfless Father, love us?  We cannot begin to comprehend the Agape Love that God has for us.  Even though we have nothing to offer, He still loves us.  Now, if you want to experience the powerful and fierce wrath of God come upon you, just to harm one of His Children.  After saying all of this, can you image how it must hurt Him when His Child will not return the love?

According to the Bible, we all have shunned God.  There was a time in our lives that we were, by nature, the children of wrath.  Ephesians 2:3  we were enemies of the Cross.  Paul tells us in Romans 3:10 & 23, "There is none righteous, no, not one."  "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."  It's not that we can't do good.  We can.  It's just that we can't keep from doing bad.  Most of us started sinning at the age of two, even though we didn't understand that it was sin.  When a two year old does something and gets his hand slapped, he learns quickly to lie the next time he is asked if he did it.  You can see him pull the vase off of the table and when you ask him, "Did you do that?" he quickly answers or shakes his head, "No."  Just to give you something to think about, let's say that you didn't sin until you were ten years old.  If you are like most of us, you have never lived a day without sin in your life.  Most people will live an average of 70 years.  So, if we limit your sins to be one a day, that would be 365 sins a year or 21,900 sins over the 60 year period.  Now, imagine for a moment that you are standing before a perfect sinless God and you have 21,900 sins in your life.  He sees that you have repented, asked for forgiveness and He sees the Blood Of Jesus has covered your sins.  There comes that Agape Love again.  He opens His arms and welcomes you into His home.  Now, imagine for just a moment, that you haven't repented.

"Things In Common"

This story begins with a woman named Elizabeth.  Elizabeth was barren and had given up on having a child.  One day, her husband, Zacharias, received a visit from Gabriel an angel.  He told him his wife would conceive a child, which would be a boy and she was to name him John.  He also told him that he would be great in the sight of the Lord.  Six months went by and the same angel appeared unto Mary.  Mary had never been with a man, therefore she was a virgin.  The angel, Gabriel, told her she would conceive a son and his name was to be called Jesus.  Luke 1:31  These were the first two miracles to take place.  Elizabeth was very old and had passed her time of child bearing, Luke 1:7, and Mary was a virgin.  Now, Mary went to visit Elizabeth and not only did she come in the presence of her cousin, but when Jesus, being in Mary's womb, came into the presence of John, who was in Elizabeth's womb, John leaped with joy.  Not only did the two women meet, but the two lads met also.  The next time we have any record of these two meeting is at the River Jordan.  Jesus comes up to John and asks to be baptized.  John reluctantly

baptizes Him and the Holy Spirit comes down from heaven like a dove and gives Jesus His power to fight the devil.  So, these women have the following things in common:

1. Both conceived supernaturally.

2. Both had boys.

3. Both were told by an angel what to name their sons.

4. Both were told of the greatness of their sons.

5. Both lost their sons to tragic deaths.

We know that God is no respecter of persons.  Therefore, miracles are still possible in our lives.  All we have to do is pray and believe.
