In studying God’s Word, we find that every individual was born for a purpose. Moses was spared as he floated down the river in a basket, why? God had a plan for Moses’ life. He was born for a purpose. Pharaoh was born for a purpose. Romans 9:17, “For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.” We see that everything happens for a reason and that everyone has a place and purpose in life. Most people never try to figure out why they are where they’re at in life. Moses was born to do good, that God would be glorified. Pharaoh was born to do evil, so that God would be glorified. The man in John 9:1-7 was born blind, so that Jesus might come by one day and heal him, that God would be glorified. Jesus bore the stripes on His back for our healing. If we never got sick, we would never have the need to be healed. God doesn’t desire for any of His children to become sick, but He had made provisions for those of us that will be sick in our lifetime. Many people have the deception that a Christian will never get sick, catch a cold or suffer from disease. We’re all human and everyone of us will, at some time in our lives, step out of line or simply need our faith to be tested. God will test us in many different ways to see if we’ll stand on His Word. Remember, you have been placed here for a reason. Someone is watching to see how you will react to the situations or circumstances that surround you. You may be questioning God as to why you’re
having the problems you’re having or why you’re sick all the time. It may seem to you that God never hears you or answers your prayers, but remember things happen for a reason and the Word says, “and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28. We must make certain that whatever our choices are, that God will receive all the Glory. †
Why Not Me?
Why it’s so important that we not put ourselves in front of others or to feel that we may be better than anybody else. Let me share a true story with you about an ordinary man. Several years ago, to make a living, this man used to buy timber. He had learned of this elderly lady that was interested in selling the timber off her land. The man had called and set up an appointment to drive over to see her the next day. When he arrived at the elderly lady’s home, he walked to the front door and knocked gently. As she opened the door, he quickly realized that the lady was blind. The man had not formally introduced himself to her other than he was there about the timber and she graciously invited him into her home and in doing so she made the statement, “I know that voice.” She proceeded to ask him if he was a preacher? He grinned and told her, “Yes, I am a preacher.” She began to tell him that she had been listening to telecast the man had, every Sunday Morning and she immediately recognized his voice. You see, God had told the man that he could never take money for preaching the Gospel, so for the first five or so years in the Ministry, he had bought and sold timber plus held three church services a week. Along with one service weekly in the local prison and one to three services in the rest homes. He was a very busy man. This lady was immediately was interested in him purchasing her timber, however, she wanted her son to close the deal and the man fully agreed that she needed someone to oversee the terms and the figures. Trying not to be invasive nor intrusive, the man asked her how long she had been blind? She replied that she had started going blind about twenty years earlier. The man then asked the foolish question, “Did she ever miss her sight?” The lady replied, that she had asked God, “Why me” and that God replied to her, “Why Not You?” She began to think and realized that she had rather be blind, than to see this happen to her son or to her grandchildren. God had taught her and, on this particular day, the man, a great lesson. That conversation took place over 35-40 years ago. The man in this story is Evangelist David Bibey and he shared this story with the congregation and his family, which has taught many a valuable lesson in life. God always knows what’s best in our lives. †
